MRF Inbound and Commodity Audits
Location: Manitoba
Client: Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association
Date: 2013-2019
AET was contracted by the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) to conduct annual audits at 5-6 Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) across Manitoba. The object of this study is to collect primary data on the composition of blue box recycled material. The audit is to include inbound material from the tipping floor as well as separate sorts from ready to be baled (sorted) recycling material and residue at the recycling facilities. CBCRA will use this data for material allocation purposes associated with the process of calculating the quantities of these materials recovered in Manitoba. In order to assist CBCRA in determining the volumes of different types of beverage containers recovered an audit of the incoming recycling stream processed by MRFs will be conducted. The data collected will also be shared with Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba (MMSM) that conducts an annual municipal datacall in which they survey Manitoba municipalities on materials diverted and waste disposed. As a number of municipalities report tonnage figures in aggregate instead of reporting the tonnage recovered by individual materials, the results from this study will also assist MMSM in calculating the recovery of various types of materials.
