Sustainable Transportation Program
After AET completed our greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the Regional Carbon Initiative, we discovered that a significant portion of our GHG emissions are produced from employee commuting. To minimize the carbon emissions from employee commutes, AET has developed and adopted several sustainable transportation policies.
Telecommuting Policy
One action we are taking to reduce emissions for employee commuting is to encourage telecommuting, which refers to an alternative work arrangement where employees can work off-site on a regular or occasional basis. This not only reduces our carbon emissions, but also reduces the time spent commuting and allows for a better work-life balance. Telecommuting does not interfere with employees’ productivity or quality of service because staff can access the company computer server remotely and maintain communication with managers through phone and email.
We are tracking the impact of telecommuting through a system of pop-up windows that employees fill out every morning when they start up their computers. We are in our first year of implementing this program, but through our telecommuting policy we hope to reduce our GHG emissions from commuting by at least 10%.
